wearing white collar, thoughtful

(no subject)

Katelyn's coming home this weekend. I haven't seen her since she left for school (although I'm told that Nick Potter has been to visit her a couple of time). Hopefully she won't be terribly busy with him the whole time.

Dan, meanwhile, seems to love being in the E.A.D.A's office. I think he's going to endorse McCoy for D.A. just so he can keep the big desk.

As for myself, I just got a rather interesting murder case on my docket, so that should be swell. Yes, I just said -swell-. Oh, I do miss Adam Schiff.

incredulous, amused

The judge rules...(ha!)

At another time in my life, I would have fought tooth and nail to keep myself on the Strickland/McCabe trial. I'm sure that the lawyers involved thought that I was "wavering" or "afraid" or giving in to them--frankly, I'm a New York County Supreme Court judge and they're a bunch of lawyers. Guess what, guys? I get to pick and choose when to deal with your bullshit! This time? I've got better things to do than deal with Danielle Melnick and a pissy ADA.

Married. And all that goes with it.

The original plan was a very long engagement.

Well...I guess sometimes life gets in the way. You finally tell yourself to stop thinking and just do. At least I did, for the first time in awhile.

Dan and I were married in Las Vegas, on July 5th, over our holiday week that began in California and...somehow ended there, in the city of lost money and too many chintzy chapels to count (believe me, I know, it took me several hours to find one that -didn't- employ an Elvis impersonator).

The Engagement: An RP moment

**private thoughts**

Met Jack for drinks last night.

Looks like he really is considering running.

I told him the truth--that the City needs him. He already knows that the DA's office has taken, as he called it "a nosedive."

Of course, Dan is already (literally) measuring the drapes in the EADA's office, since he's pretty much next in line for that job.

There have been three great...men who I've cared about in my life. One is dead, one is one of my best friends and the other is the man I'm beginning to realize more and more that I want to spend the rest of my life with.

I always thought Neil would be there, even to spar with, forever, and he's not.

I never thought I'd be the one giving Jack McCoy advice, and I am.

After everything that's gone on in the last year, and really, in the last twenty years, I didn't want to think about lasting relationships...and now I see more and more that I have one, with Dan.

home sweet home

Back in the City, just as I hear the Bryce trial is coming to a close.

Dad's entirely okay now.

I've missed my apartment and my dogs and even (gasp) all of my colleagues.

Looking forward to getting back in touch with people.

judge, alone

A phone call: An RP moment...

She had been prepping for next week's trial when the phone call came.

Her office was a mess--papers and reference books everywhere, not just for the upcoming trial but for other cases that were on her docket. She wasn't the neatest person, but she usually wasn't this...slovenly. She brushed back a strand of hair behind her ear and right as the phone rang, took a bite of turkey sandwich.

"Ross," she said through a mouthful of turkey and lettuce. She frowned. "Charlie, slow down..." She sat up. "What?? When??" She swallowed. "No...a few days to a week? Yes, of course I'll be there...just...as soon as I get some stuff together and find someone to take my caseload..."

A few minutes later, she finished talking with her brother and got up. She gathered her things and talked on her cell phone as she did so. First she left a message for Dan, who she knew was in court. Then she called her friend, Judge Amanda Anderly. Anderly was out too, so she left a message.

"Amanda, it's Jamie...I'm going to be out of the state until late next week at the earliest...remember the trial I was telling you about? Giggling bandits?...I was wondering how your docket was looking for next week...if you could give me a call..."

1:32am, Sunday morning (Saturday night?)

It's been...busy. Everyone I know seems swamped. I guess it's that time of the year.

It's nearly 2am on a weekend and I'm unable to sleep. There're a lot of things on my slate for the next week, including the trial of a man I'm not sure should even be on trial (but I suppose that's what the jury's for now, isn't it?) Catching up on that particular case, however, has been time-consuming.

Katie and Nick Potter went to a baseball game together the other day...Dan's in a snit about it. I'm not sure why. Potter's a nice guy...personally, I think Katie could use someone stable and not like the fickle college kids she's been hanging around.

She adamantly swore that they're just friends, but still.

Dammit. What is it about trials that gets me all jumpy? I'm a judge, for god's sake. Dan is sleeping quite soundly next to me, unphased by the glow of the laptop or the clacking of keys. He looks so serene...too serene...Will not...poke him...will not...poke him...
